Alltel alters stealth tower plan

Alltel officials have decided to plant their fake tree a littlefarther east off Sheridan Lake Road.

The cell phone company recently withdrew its request for avariance that would have allowed it to erect a 105-foot tall“stealth tower” — a cell tower disguised as a pine tree — closerto the property line than allowed under Pennington Countyordinance.

Instead, Alltel will build the tower about 15 feet away from thespot that was originally proposed, said Dan Jennissen, PenningtonCounty planning and zoning director.

Company officials said they had designed the tower, which willbe north of Sheridan Lake Road near the Countryside North housingarea, to comply with county ordinances then posted on PenningtonCounty’s website. however, what was posted online did not reflectan amendment to the ordinance that had been made within theprevious year.

To comply with setback requirements, the tower would need to bemoved about 15 feet. but a slight downhill slope in that area meantthe company would have to make the tower taller in order to get thesame reception — and that would have required it to go backthrough the telecommunications permitting process to get permissionfor a taller tower.

As a result, the company requested a variance. in September, county commissioners voted 3-1 to approve the variance, but statelaw required four “yes” votes.

Jennissen said company officials are still planning to erect a105-foot tower, despite the terrain. as of Tuesday, Alltel had notyet applied for a county building permit for the tower.

From the bottom it looks like a steep incline From the top another downhill slope of mine But I know, the equilibrium’s there

Priests and cinderellas? I’d appreciate it if they could use less color in their descriptions, the material is interesting as it is.

App=approved, systems=integrated, closed beta test= finishing touches – not quite the downhill slope, but getting there.
